At some point or another, everyone has dreamed about living in a castle. Whether it was because of princesses in Disney films or characters in Game of Thrones, there’s no denying the appeal of living in such an extravagant residence.
Unfortunately for most people, finding a castle to occupy probably means heading off to Europe. At least, that’s how it was until a recent development. In truth, there’s a perfectly lovely castle that was built in the 1920s that might be your dream home in waiting.
Not only that, but it’s just an hour north of Manhattan in Ossining, New York. Wait until you see it for yourself!
No matter who you are, there’s a chance you’ve dreamed of living in a large castle at some point in your life. If it wasn’t because Disney princesses made them appealing, it’s because you wanted to reenact the life of your favorite Game of Thrones character. (Preferably one who survived, that is.)

Of course, it’s fun to daydream about living in such an extravagant residence to call home. Let’s be honest, though: owning a castle is downright unaffordable for most people. It’s just the stuff of fairy tales, right?

Well, if you’re someone who’d like to turn their dreams of living in an actual castle into a reality, there might be good news. Not only is the castle below located just an hour north of Manhattan, but it’s now available for purchase…
Built by the cofounder of Abercrombie & Fitch, David Abercrombie, in the 1920s, the castle is located at 249 Croton Dam Road in the town of Ossining, New York. And lucky you, it just went on the market for a cool $3.69 million!
The castle was nicknamed the “Elda Castle” after the initials of David’s four children. The home became a private getaway for the family following the tragic deaths of two of their children, Lucy and David, in 1929 and 1937, respectively.
Though the castle is obviously beautiful, it has, however, recently fallen into disrepair. The future homeowner will likely have to renovate it in order to bring it back to its full potential. That said, it’s definitely a project worth doing…
There are plenty of fine details inside of the castle that can easily be restored and made to look brand-new in no time. For instance, the patio with its own fireplace and the lavish cast iron spiral staircase are both beautiful and unique elements.
The sprawling castle, nestled among the thick forest of trees, was designed by David’s wife, architect Abbott Cate. The 4,337-square-foot residence also features four bedrooms and four-and-a-half baths!
Not to mention, the beautiful home also includes 50 acres of land. It should be noted that the acreage is so great that it spans three separate tax lots. And, while we’re on the subject, the annual property tax bill for Elda Castle is about $109,701.
Still, it goes without saying that anyone who gets to live in the picturesque Elda Castle would be more than lucky to do so. Not only would it be a dream come true for the home buyer, but it’s a private oasis fit for a king!
Can you imagine actually getting to buy a real-life castle like this? It sure would be amazing to live like royalty!
