‘Fantasyland’ With Themed Rooms And An Indoor Waterpark Might Be The Best Hotel Of All Time

Whether traveling solo or with family, your hotel room acts as a sort of “home base” for your stay. It’s a place to throw your stuff, get a good night’s rest, and scarf down coffee and doughnuts before heading out to explore. But that might not be the case with one hotel in Canada.

Fittingly titled the Fantasyland Hotel, this place offers more than just free continental breakfast and clean sheets. With rooms so beautiful, the hotel itself could have been any vacation’s main attraction, and that’s not even the half of it…

If you were to step through the front doors of West Edmonton Mall in Canada, you’d be met with spectacular sights: one-off shops, themed restaurants, and perhaps penguins roaming the corridors. Seriously. And from there, the attractions only gets crazier.

A lazy river—complete with a pirate ship—carries inner tube riders through the mall, and sea otters perform for all to see. But on the western end of the mall, located beside the Metro Market, the Fantasyland Hotel trumps all of it.

In the Fantasyland Hotel, every room boasts an original theme with unbelievable, over-the-top decor. In the ancient Roman-themed room, for instance, colorful tapestries adorn the walls and white stone pillars brace the ceiling.

If you were feeling a bit more futuristic, you could ditch the chariots and horses for space shuttles and horsepower. In the space room, for $161 a night, your kids could act as Star Wars characters and shout all they want. It’s soundproof, so neighbors wouldn’t complain!

The hotel provides countless other beautiful rooms, too. Stone-faced walls surround the hot tub inside the Ancient Polynesia room. And the bed? Yeah, that is a boat, complete with intricately carved posts!

People looking for a more modern Polynesian experience might opt for the appropriately named Modern Polynesia room. There, vines and tropical fauna sprout from a lava rock wall that even has its own waterfall.

Perhaps more in line with the Canadian climate, the Igloo room allows tourists to feel more like they’re touring the Great White North. It’s possible that sleeping inside an igloo would be pretty cool.

Then again, the cold isn’t for everyone. The African room’s murals and stones are enough to make folks yearn for the hot Saharan plains. There’s also a jacuzzi in the room for when you’re ready to kick back and soak.

Fantasists dreaming of a place a few hundred miles northeast of the African deserts could opt for the Arabia room. Lace curtains enclose the king-sized bed and features straight from the mind of a lamp-encased genie dominate the room.

Even in Edmonton, people dream of the Hollywood Hills. To make those folks feel right at home, Fantasyland Hotel offers the Hollywood room, which comes equipped with its own leather seats and a “dance” pole. How very LA.

If you can dream it, Fantasyland has you covered. For the real road enthusiasts, this room features antique gas pumps and traffic lights. Who said sleeping in a car-shaped bed was for kids?

But forget diesel engines and double-digit horsepower—this Victorian-era carriage provides all the bedroom comfort any guest could ever need. For true authenticity, the designers even added a carriage driver!

Getting dunked on never felt as good as when you were staying in the Sports room. There, guests can practice their long-range jump shots or work on their supine hook shot from the comfort of their own bed.

Traveling with kids can be a pain, so the Wild West-themed room offers a nice solution: a functioning prison cell! Just kidding. But really, with spokes, carriages, and more, this room is one saloon shy of a real frontier town.

Some Fantasyland Hotel rooms offer a more simple kind of elegance. For example, the Imperial room whispers romance with its frilly lace curtains, brightly upholstered chairs, and mirrored jacuzzi. For those feeling a bit more regal, though…

The bright pink Princess room is enough to make guests feel like the tiara-donning royalty that they are. Prim and proper tea seats really bring the living-like-royalty gimmick home.

Of course, way up in Edmonton, Canada, sunny beach vacations aren’t exactly a short drive away. So the Beach Vacation room gives guests the ocean view and palms they clearly dream of. But sometimes this just isn’t enough…

Guests with true visions of aquatic grandeur could step right outside of Fantasyland and right into the adjacent World Waterpark. Located within the same mall, the park’s many waterslides dump swimmers into a gloriously gigantic indoor pool.

After a dip in the pool, swimmers can then dry off on the high-speed roller coasters of Galaxyland. (Does anyone actually shop at this mall?) Inside this theme park, riders can enjoy the world’s largest indoor triple-loop roller coaster!

Despite the West Edmonton Mall’s features, some guests simply opt for a room where they can lay their heads. Fantasyland Hotel has something for them, too. But just because this room looks boring, that doesn’t mean it’s not hiding something unique: that’s right, bunk beds! This place really has it all, doesn’t it?

With rooms like these, it’s no wonder staying at the Fantasyland Hotel could be the highlight of any trip. Which room would you book for yourself?
